Hackney Carriages ('Taxis')

-  Can be hired on the street or at taxi ranks

-  Do not need to be pre-booked

-  Display a 'Taxi' roof sign

-  Have a white license plate

-  Fares are set by the Council and the meter must be used.

 

Private Hire Vehicles

-  MUST be pre-booked through a Private Hire Operator

-  Display a blue license plate

-  If the vehicle is not pre-booked the insurance may be

   invalidated

-  Fares are set by the private hire company and agreed in advance of the journey
